Two of the six councils in Berkshire have selective secondary schools that operate an 11+ exam for secondary transfer: Slough and Reading.
There are two fully selective and one partially selective school in Reading, each operating its own 11+ admissions process independently.
There are four grammar schools in Slough, operating as the Slough Consortium of Grammar Schools for the purposes of the 11+ exam. The schools use a common exam meaning a child sits just one exam irrespective of how many Slough grammar schools they are applying to. The exam consists of two papers which assess verbal, numerical and non-verbal ability. Answers are recorded on an Optical Mark Reading (OMR) answer sheet which is marked by computer. The exam papers are marked and then age-standardised to ensure younger pupils are not disadvantaged. If applying to selective schools outside of Slough you will need to register directly with them and follow their own admissions process.

Number of papers: The FSCE test is a single integrated assessment. There are no separate named papers and there is no creative writing element. The test format and subject mix changes from year to year.
Subjects Tested: The FSCE test draws on KS2 National Curriculum subjects up to and including the Year 5 programme of study. Subjects tested may include any of the following: Art & Design, Computing, Design & Technology, English, Geography, History, Languages, Maths, Music, Physical Education and Science. The test also includes a Creativity element (written response requiring imaginative or original thinking). The specific subjects and question types change each year. Questions focus on applying knowledge rather than recalling facts.
