11+ Medway Towns
There are six grammar schools in the Medway Council Local Authority. All six schools use the Medway Test (11+), meaning your child only needs to sit one test even if applying to multiple schools. From September 2026, Chatham Grammar, Fort Pitt Grammar and Holcombe Grammar Schools became co-educational.
All questions are multiple choice format and answers are recorded on an Optical Mark Reading (OMR) answer sheet. The raw scores from the three papers are age-standardised then weighted (English x2, Maths x2, Reasoning x1) to produce a total weighted score. This total weighted score is used to determine whether the child has attained the pass mark. The pass mark is set to select approximately the top 25% of children in the whole Medway Towns year group.
Chatham Grammar School also accepts the Kent Test for admission to the school.
If you also wish your child to apply to a grammar school in nearby areas of Kent or Bexley, you will need to register separately for those tests.
